The Constant Cynic

My blog on current events. It includes politics, technology, sports, and more. I include my special cynical commentary on everything. Completely nonpartisan views.

McCain has been taking a lot of heat for flip-flopping while Obama is constantly praised as being straight and honest. Well guess what, he has lied on several occasions. This isn't an exception to politicians, but I really hate it when people act they Obama is a good person. Here's one big example.

In February of 2007, Obama said "My plan requires both major party candidates to agree on a fundraising truce, return excess money from donors, and stay within the public financing system for the general election...If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election."

It looks explicitly stated that he was sure that he would publicly fund his campaign. That's clear cut and no way to dispute it. And then the primaries started and the money began pouring in...

Obama opts out of public funding

Well guess what; today, Obama decided to opt out of public funding with the predictions that he could get up to $500 million from fund raising. I'm not saying that Obama is necessarily a horrible politician for lying; in fact, he is a great politician. If opting out of public funding gets him more money than McCain, then go ahead and do it. Just don't make excuses. Say it as it is. "I want to use more money than John McCain so I will become President of the United States." There, that was easy and truthful.

Actually, if you think about it, Senator Obama is taking public financing. The donations pouring into his campaign are coming from the public.

What Senator McCain is taking is a government handout. It's a check coming from the government.

I thought Republicans were supposed to be opposed to government handouts.
